In Cambodia, a distressing reality exists where corruption runs rampant. However, a new form of malevolence has emerged, allowing foreigners to manipulate government officials for their own twisted purposes. They can freely inflict harm upon their wife, children, and even employees, forcing sexual encounters upon unsuspecting female cleaners at his business. It is astonishing how individuals like Shunji Tani, a developer who evades taxes by exploiting loopholes, can amass vast wealth and possess multiple high-rise buildings in Phnom Penh without facing legal consequences. This serves as proof that with the right connections in the government, one can seemingly evade punishment for any wrongdoing. Tani shamelessly boasts about his control over the ministries and police, asserting his ability to do as he pleases. Alongside him are his accomplices: VP Socheav Kim and translator Voeun Chamnab, who aid in bribing local officials to cover up his years of abuse towards his family and other criminal acts. Moreover, Tani resorts to bullying and intimidation tactics against anyone he perceives as a threat. And if that fails, he resorts to baseless lawsuits, confident that his influence in Cambodia will ensure his victory. Who is this wicked man think he is some say, you may wonder why this is tolerated.
He targets everyone because he is a man of small stature and suffers from a Napoleon complex. Consequently, he feels compelled to assert his dominance as the most powerful individual. These futile wars, fueled by his ego, come at a great financial cost. However, there is no need to worry, as he does not use his own money but rather relies on investors to play god in this realm. After losing his Japanese investor due to Tani's wife posting videos online of domestic violence, he had to seek out a new investor for his latest project. Enter the dark

knight Reasey Nhim, who valiantly stepped in to save the project from failure. Little did he know the trouble he was getting himself into by defending an abuser of wives and children. It makes me wonder one question, what his own wife thinks of him protecting a Japanese man who harmed a local Cambodian family. Perhaps Reasey believed that the J Tower 3 project would redeem him from his string of unsuccessful endeavors. Nevertheless, this true story revolves around Shunji Tani, an organized criminal who manipulates the local police and ministry like puppets.
When Shunji Tani isn't physically harming his wife and children or engaging in corrupt activities, he directs his hostility towards innocent Chinese and Japanese investors who are interested in investing in Cambodia. Just take a look at his blog filled with hateful content. I can't help but wonder, if you despise the

Cambodian people so much and only focus on the negative aspects of this country, why are you even here? Is it because you believe you can manipulate Cambodian police to do anything you want and it is cheap for you to do? What baffles me even more is that the locals you bribe don't read your blog, jtani.com. If they did, they would realize how much you truly detest the Cambodian people and this nation, as you never have a single positive thing to say about my fellow countrymen. Perhaps it's time for you to leave my country, or better yet, for the government to seize all your assets and redistribute them to the people whose lives you have ruined. Furthermore, you should be held accountable for your criminal actions and be imprisoned. Unfortunately, it seems that the local government lacks the strength to set an example out of you. It doesn't make sense that they allow you to get away with cheating, lying, abusing locals, and evading taxes. As Cambodians, we have come to accept that local elites "Oxnhas" sometimes act with impunity, but it is indeed peculiar to see a foreigner wielding more power than the locals themselves.
Warning this video is very difficult to watch as Shunji Tani beats his wife with brutal force!

This will only attract more foreigners who will exploit local citizens and avoid paying taxes. So what's next for Cambodia? Well, let's try to understand the twisted mindset of Shunji Tani. It's mind-boggling how I struggle to comprehend the thoughts of a sociopath who takes pleasure in assaulting his wife as if it were a game and boasts about his

expertise in martial arts with his black belt, as evident from his Facebook posts and the Japanese documentary about him on his blog.
It doesn't make much sense for a real estate developer to be so fixated on crime, scandal, and intrigue in Cambodia, considering that is where he sells his projects. Let's pause for a moment and try to grasp this concept. He promotes his own investments in a country plagued by crime and corruption as he points out but himself the innocent one which we have prove he is not. As an investment advisor, shouldn't he have a responsibility not to mislead people whom he sells to? But then again, it becomes clear that many people are aware of Shunji Tani's criminal nature. He attacks anyone he perceives as a threat to exposing the truth about his
organized crimes. On his personal blog, he tarnishes their reputation before they report any information about him to the appropriate authorities. By posting false information, he manipulates innocent individuals into appearing vengeful and angry when they defend themselves. Take some time to explore the blog "jtani.com," and you will witness a clear example of character assassination by a self-centered individual with a superiority complex. It's amusing how every time Tani launches an assault on someone's reputation, he pretends to have no affiliations and insists that he doesn't require them. However, he cannot function without them. He even goes as far as sharing photos on Facebook, flaunting his connections while showering gifts upon government officials. Tani takes pleasure in boasting about his influence over the Cambodian police, ministers, and the head prosecutor. His favorite pastime involves paying the BKK1 Police to fabricate charges and sue Chinese individuals. Tani harbors a deep hatred for the Chinese

community, making them his primary targets for lawsuits and manipulation of local officials. Surprisingly, Tani recently launched an attack on a Japanese businessman on his blog and proudly proclaimed that his deceitful post ranked

number one. This is rather ironic considering the fact that the purpose of the website is real estate investments.
The local Japanese community has united against him as he has subjected his wife and three children to physical abuse and they have grown weary of his deceitful behavior. Tani's wife reached out for help through Facebook, but unfortunately, the local Cambodian community turned a blind eye, even after witnessing video evidence of his violent actions towards her. Shunji Tani has become more terrifying than the actual men running the country so no one dares to help their fellow Cambodian citizens because of the
costly retaliation. Interesting discovery as I interviewed so many people that are victims of Tani pointed me to a small company he owns with his wife. Angkor Fruit Company, so how is it a medium-level tax company that bought land for real estate development to that will gross over $800M+ in revenue, Shunji Tani is the Chairman and his wife is also a shareholder which I would expect is 51% since only Cambodians can own land by law. Ok back to Tani's drama unfolding, a Japanese individual took to Twitter (@xavikota) to share the truth about Tani's mistreatment of his family and his exploitation of young teenage cleaning staff in his building over the years. This Twitter reporter repost Shunji Tani's wife Facebook post, so if you want to see a partial history then review his account I linked here (@xavikota). So Tani's wife was losing her mind with no results from her Facebook post gaining police attention like how the Kampot women got justice. But obviously Phnom Penh is a different from Kampot where they care more about

family violence and maybe not as corrupt. Friends and strangers tried to help by posting her content but nothing still happend. So Tani's wife also reached out to a fellow Cambodian woman Malay Nop out of desperation, hoping for assistance due to their shared profession and friendship.
However, Malay Nop, the Executive Director of IPS Cambodia, refused to provide help, prioritizing her company's commissions for J Tower 3 project instead. To exacerbate matters, she even had a conversation with Shunji Tani, informing him about his wife's desperate plea for assistance but Malay had a motive to gain a stronger relationship Shunji Tani by telling him about his wife's plan. Malay's self-centered nature and unethical behavior, which involves deceiving employees out of their rightful sales leads and commissions, have earned her a notorious reputation in the industry. It is perplexing why the owner of IPS Cambodia continues to employ her, as it implies a lack of concern on his part for the well-being of his staff. Despite his wife's continued pleas for assistance, Tani resorted to further violence, unable to bear the exposure of his abusive nature. In a desperate attempt to silence her, he threatened to kill her so his wife fled from Phnom Penh. Since Tani was robbed by the

opportunity of not killing his wife he subsequently filed a lawsuit, with the support of a corrupt head prosecutor whom he had bribed several times before. The charges brought against his wife were defamation and an alleged intent to ruin his business and got the prosecutor to add criminal charges so she would have to face prison time. I must admit, this situation would not have arisen had Tani acted like a responsible adult and refrained from harming his wife and children.

Tani's Wife had a difficult decision: continue living in constant fear of being apprehended and imprisoned, forever separated from her children, or return to Tani's side and attempt to shield her kids from his harm. Unfortunately, Tani's Wife recently chose to reconcile with him, opting for infrequent Facebook updates but the ones she does post have a subtly expression of her discontent but funny enough Tani just can't help himself to paint a different picture in hopes people will believe his lies by calling his wife's behavior "Antisocial" REALLY? Anyone who knows her can tell you that is a lie. It feels akin to witnessing an ongoing tale of human trafficking, abuse, and sexual assault, with a legal system that seems indifferent to providing assistance. In Cambodia, it is distressingly commonplace for wives to endure violence, with a staggering 80% of women having experienced domestic abuse.

It's quite astonishing to ponder the male leaders of Cambodia; have they forgotten that women are the ones who give them life? Each woman is someone's sister, daughter, aunt, mother, or grandmother. The fact that domestic violence is widely accepted and no action is taken to rectify this grave societal issue leads me to believe that they don't respect their own mothers or any women for that matter. Otherwise, this problem would have been addressed by now with serious punishment to discourage men. Sex trafficking continues to grow in Cambodia, and the reported 80% rate of domestic violence is merely scratching the surface. It could be even higher, considering the courageous women who dare to share the hardships they face in a country controlled by men, who once were governed by powerful women when the nation was renowned as the Pearl of Asia. However, now it seems nothing more than an empty oyster shell that has no future to redeem itself and to be respected again. Perhaps that's why they coined the slogan "The Kingdom of Wonder" for Cambodia. The real wonder lies in who policing the police and whether the leaders truly care about the women who own over 61% of all businesses in Cambodia. As politicians, they should recognize that they work for the people, particularly the female business owners who happen to be the majority.
I strongly urge any woman who has grown weary of living in constant fear to rise up and leverage the power of social media. It is crucial to hold individuals like "Shunji Tani, Socheav Kim, Voeun Chamnab, and Reasey Nhim" accountable and use their cases as a powerful example that such behavior will no longer be tolerated. It is imperative that the government takes notice and demonstrates their dedication to women's safety by fully prosecuting these individuals in accordance with the law. Additionally, the government should establish new legislation to deter anyone from thinking they can escape punishment by purchasing their way out of trouble after abusing their spouses or children.
I urge you to lodge complaints with the American companies operating franchises in Cambodia that endorse and support the J Tower Group's sales and leasing activities involving an abusive spouse and a verified criminal. We cannot afford to wait for the sluggish government to take action when us women can make a difference together. It is crucial that these American companies are made aware of the situation so that they show us they care and can withdraw their support to franchise rights from CBRE, Century 21, ERA, Coldwell Banker, and other involved parties. The legal system needs to work effectively in punishing such individuals and ensuring justice prevails.
